Porcelain Veneers

porcelain veneers

Dental veneers are thin shells of porcelain bonded to your teeth called porcelain veneers for an enhanced, brightened appearance. It is a great treatment for:

  • Masking permanently stained teeth
  • Closing spaces between your teeth
  • Improving the appearance of damaged or broken teeth
  • The porcelain veneers treatment process

Conceal chips, cracks and stains with porcelain veneers

After your initial consultation at our dental clinic in Adelaide, porcelain veneer treatment takes three appointments. Each veneer is custom-fabricated in a lab to match the shape and appearance of your natural teeth.

The first appointment is when your dentist discusses your oral health and what your desired outcome is. If porcelain veneers can achieve your goal, an impression will be taken of your teeth and sent to the laboratory.

The second appointment is when your teeth are prepared for the veneers: this involves a small amount of enamel from the front of your tooth being removed. A temporary veneer will be placed while you wait for the more permanent ones to be fabricated.

The third appointment is when your temporary veneers are removed and your permanent ones bonded into place. Porcelain veneers are only placed on the teeth in your smile zone. That is the top and bottom teeth visible when you smile.

Am I suitable for porcelain veneers?

The best way to know whether you are a suitable candidate for veneers treatment is to come in for a cosmetic assessment with our team in Adelaide. Patients must have adequate oral health before receiving this treatment. We don’t want a weakened tooth to cause your veneers to fail a few weeks after placement. This means we need to treat any underlying issues before placement. This includes any cavities, infected teeth, abscesses etc.

Taking care of your porcelain veneers

If looked after properly your porcelain veneers can last a long time—usually up to 8-10 years. But it depends on how well you look after them. It is imperative you maintain optimal oral hygiene routine: brush and floss your teeth every day. As well as visit our dentist in Adelaide every six months for a regular check-up. If you are someone who chews on pens we advise you cease this as it can shorten the lifespan on your veneers.
